I love Jennifer Chiaverini's books and I have read all of them. Her publisher so kindly sent me a copy of the giving quilt and pins to give to one of my readers. If you would like a chance to win this book simply leave me a comment telling me if you have read any of Jennifer's books.
I will choose the winner by a random number and contact that person by e mail and send them the book and pins. What could be easier?

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-24290612807307839412013-04-10T20:01:00.001-05:002013-04-10T20:01:32.155-05:00More blocks piecedRetreat was in February... Friday can not arrive soon enough! I cut two kits this weekend. One is called nevermore based on the raven poem. It is for my daughter who adores ravens and Poe. This quilt is perfect for Halloween.

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-49769147507729084072012-09-04T22:08:00.001-05:002012-09-04T22:08:46.646-05:00One block doneI finished this block for a quilting buddy of mine can't wait to see the finished quilt!!
Feels good to get things done however I am getting more home projects done than sewing. I re grouted some tiles and re screened a window. Need to balance sewing and working on the house!

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-26374410315333594252012-08-18T16:23:00.001-05:002012-08-18T16:23:15.930-05:00I love scrappy quiltsI finished a quilt today. It has been a really long time since I actually finished a quilt.
I had the yellow fabric with the roses. The rest of the fabric was a swap of scraps with two of my good friends. I started this quilt over a year ago but I quilted this one myself!! Now if the weather would just turn colder ready to snuggle under this one.

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-11735081444081806902012-02-08T19:38:00.001-06:002012-02-08T19:38:42.966-06:00Wow it's been a whileIt has been a really long time since I have posted. My latest project was inspired by Bonnie Hunter. I saw her Christmas color hexagon quilt and went ga ga over it. Here is a picture of her quilt. I am working on reproducing her design with modification to the border.
I know it will take a long time to complete but am carrying it with me everywhere so if I have five minutes to sew I can work on it. Will post pics of progress!

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-90444147533874063922011-09-15T22:00:00.001-05:002011-09-15T22:01:18.281-05:00Vintage sewing find!!I know I haven't posted for a long time. I took a class on restoring this machine and am very happy with the results. The case was dingy and with paint stains on it. Now it is black and shiny as it should be. The machine sews like a champ!! It was all I used at my four day retreat in feb and I completed three tops! I am so glad I found Liza last summer!!

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
Www.jansquiltingobsession.blogspot.com
Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-18825373666169387182011-02-20T10:06:00.001-06:002011-02-20T10:06:07.781-06:00Quilt retreatI have been on quilt retreat all weekend. My office is in my house so I could still work during the day. In the evenings I got some serious sewing done this week. Here is the result. I plan on piecing a back and basting tonight then start quilting tomorrow. This is a pattern from the jelly roll quilts book by Pam and Nicky Lintott.

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
Www.jansquiltingobsession.blogspot.com
Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-42325979201682056882011-01-29T21:08:00.001-06:002011-01-29T21:08:25.192-06:00My quilting kittyHere is my quilting buddy bobcat. Wherever I have thread and fabric he shows up gracing me with his presence. He was on my handquilting frame with me earlier today. He decided this is a great place for a nap. It is also right next to the birdcage.
Feel like I accomplished a lot of sewing this weekend!! I got 18 blocks assembled for a scrappy project I am doing with a couple of friends.
Tomorrow I am taking a zentangle class and am very excited.

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
Www.jansquiltingobsession.blogspot.com
Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-14120064627910689292011-01-22T08:28:00.002-06:002011-01-22T08:31:25.155-06:00New stitchery BOM<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ib9jsUHnfTQ/TTrqNTW4wNI/AAAAAAAAAFw/_KMGJj07IEI/s320/birdie%2Bstitches.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5565017803825135826" />
My friend led me to a new BOM that is just too adorable.
the link is
www.littlemissshabby.com
I love her blog and her new block of the month.
attached is a pic of the first block I completed.
I am doing mine in 30's fabric. I think that is a record for me.
I am attaching pics of all four of them. I really think pat Sloan's UFO blog really helped me to get focused to get projects completed. I am still working on quilting one for my son, a little late for Christmas but maybe a new years present??
I think i still need to do an inventory of my BOM's that have turned into kits at this point. I have a lot of applique BOM (Kits) and I am thinking about fusing several of them instead of doing everything by hand so I can get some more quilts finished.
The fishing quilt in the pic I quilted on my mid arm machine, the first large quilt i have done, it is rough but practice makes perfect right?
back to the sewing machine,
happy stitching!Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-88287175655160451812010-12-19T14:40:00.001-06:002010-12-19T14:40:44.299-06:00It's a quilty christmas
First quilt for Christmas given this weekend. I love the holiday season!Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-8583955550468431752010-11-07T14:47:00.002-06:002010-11-07T14:53:56.390-06:00One UFO completed<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ib9jsUHnfTQ/TNcRy9bOwQI/AAAAAAAAAE0/Z7qQI7J6pHw/s320/PA300053.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5536913834055221506" />
Well i started with Pat Sloan's UFO tips, check out her blog.
Pat is giving tips every tuesday and thursday on how to bust your UFO's and turn them into finished quilts.
Picture of my first UFO finished is attached, it felt good to say one thing is done and ready for christmas to give away!
I decided to focus on projects that i wanted to give as christmas presents this year, so I can go into 2011 feeling a sense of accomplishment! I am putting binding on a second UFO right now that will be another christmas present and working on a scrappy quilt from the Jelly roll book. I will share a picture of it when I get the top together.
I also need to find time to work with my mid-arm machine, i have taken my quilts to long armers to be done.
I am excited about being able to quilt my own but need the time to practice, practice, practice!
Have a great week,
JanJan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-21597711418848660812010-10-19T21:44:00.002-05:002010-10-19T21:45:43.511-05:00davids quilt top finished<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ib9jsUHnfTQ/TL5XxpGJ_1I/AAAAAAAAAEs/d9f0-qYS_hQ/s320/39297_1577048301409_1091651129_1657964_2462999_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5529953902814429010" />
Here is the other quilt top I finished at retreat, this one is the one I designed in EQ7Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-36945231866391336462010-10-19T21:19:00.002-05:002010-10-19T21:24:20.964-05:00Land of the UFO'sHello from a rangers fan!!
Wanted to let you know about Pat Sloan's UFO busting tips she has out on her blog right now.
I am doing the process.. step one was easy, making a list (although a bit shameful for me!) of all your UFO's.
I will not tell you exactly how many UFO's I have but it is over 25 and less than 50 so I definitely need some help.
Here is the link if you would like to check it out.
http://patsloan.typepad.com/pat_sloans_corner/12-ufo-buster-tips/

I have actually passed one project I had "outgrown" to my daughter and she is loving it where I had no desire to finish this quilt!
So one down many more to go.. I am putting binding on a quilt for a christmas present right now and hope to have it finished this weekend. Then I have another one quilted that just needs binding so 2 simple things and 2 UFO's off my list!!
I also ordered some backing fabric so I can get 2 more tops off to the quilter to hopefully (keep my fingers crossed) get them done for christmas. Four to give away would be a record for me!
Back to the game!!Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-32899899252404587002010-10-03T10:01:00.001-05:002010-10-03T10:01:38.676-05:00Quilt retreat fall 2010 pics

My buddies!!

Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7727057643894322988.post-48567550530276577752010-10-03T09:56:00.001-05:002010-10-03T09:56:49.883-05:00Quilt retreat fall 2010Well the last day of quilt retreat is here. The cat is bobcat and he often sits on the back of my chair as I sew to get closer to the birds! He is such a rascal.

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
Www.jansquiltingobsession.blogspot.com
Jan Pottshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03127284964917530995noreply@blogger.com0
